Mandarin For Adult

Whenever I encourage agents to speak English, they felt that I should also learn Mandarin. Though I can speak Mandarin fluently, I do not read and write Chinese.
The challenge is to get enough participants/adults for the lesson
A retired headmaster is willing to start a class.

Recently, when sending translated sms in Mandarin to agents, there was no reply. In fact some reply in English. Reason, the older Chinese do not learn Han Yu Pinyin.
Finally, we chose to sms in simple English.

E-Mail Training May 20, 2007

11 agents attended. Two of the agents were there to help. One agent brought the daughter along, another brought the son to learn together, one came with the sister.
We extend to the agent's family to learn together. For me I asked my two sons to come along to help.

E-Mail Training - Group B

The computer centre have 10 units of computers for training. Those who own a laptop can use their own unit for practise, as the place is wi-fi.

As there are more than 20 people interested we will break them into groups

Making Complex System Simple

A family friend of mine had developed some program. I have invited him to Kluang to share with agents on how their work can be made simple by using the right system.

Possible date May 27, 2007. On this date we are also looking at going to Yong Peng to conduct e-mail training.

A training for agents had been scheduled on 6/5/07 (Sunday) at 10.00am
Travelling outstation on a weekly basis can be a cost. Using e-mail is zero cost since most agents are now on broadband.

Using sms by handphone cost little and is effective. I will need to explore sending sms by computer.Find anything zero cost and effective and than share with agents. To encourage agents to read e-mail on a daily basis will be a challenge. Good for my thinking cap.

FLEXIBILITY IN LEARNING

Today, I visited some agents who felt that they are slow learner when it come to computer. When I bought my first computer I did not use it for two years.Each time I start using I would use only the few familiar keys and then shut it down. I have this fear of punching the wrong keys and having to send it to the computer shop for repair.

My children, they happily play the computer game and explore every function they can.
Probably, if there is any problems I am the one to pay for the bills. Well, they never created any problems, except that the CD-Writer is out of order and need replacement

Now, I can understand the feeling of my agents. The best place to teach them would be my home. Having streamyx line, two computers and projector might be a good way to start a 'computer club' with agents participations.

These are pictures of two places worth visiting. Many who read my blog last year commented and remembered it is mostly of foods.

Year 2007, Visit Malaysia Year, a good time to write of places that I visited and would like to inform my family and friends to revisit

Pulau Ketam (Crab Island)is very obvious,

you can see the map and the crab on top the roof,

It is only half an hour by ferry from Klang.

The other two pictures are taken today in Minyak Beku. The restuarant is design exactly like a ship and you can dine the fresh seafood, and take a walk to the temple nearby. A very popular place during weekend. Why?

Discover Malaysia

This was the first holiday with my family to drive around Malaysia. We drove 2050km in 6 days. First stop, was to visit my colleague Richard, who stayed in Segamat. The town was flooded, many parts up to the roof top. I can feel that flood can caused heavy damages and loss.
Many home were without electricity, water and communications for few days. A battery operated radio is a useful emergency tools. You can tune into RTM.
We drive along the Karak Highway to Kuantan. A day ago there was flood along one stretch and vehicles could not passed through. We were lucky that the water had receded and the driving was pleasant.
We have planned to stop whenever we wanted and enjoyed the journey.We stay a night in Kuantan. We like the place and would like to visit the town again. Next, stayed at,Kuala Terengganu, Kota Bharu, Gua Musang, Kuala Lumpur.
We drove from Gua Musang though a new road to Cameron Highlands. The stretch is probably not safe during the raining seasons because it cross so many mountains.
In summary we have a better perspective of Malaysia and look to travel to the other towns that we have never visited before. HAPPY VMY 2007

GUNUNG BELUMUT - KLUANG

Pos Malaysia, Kluang organised a Family Day, and I went with my family. There is this group from Jempul,Seremban, that stayed here for two nights. There are some basic facilities, chalet, toilets and ground for camping. A guide can be engaged to go hiking up the mountain that will take 4 hours. Anybody who own or can arrange a 4 x 4 vehicle can engaged a guide to drive to the opposite side of the mountain for a scenic waterfall, not many have discover yet. Under the waterfall there is a cave.
Someday, I will need to visit it myself to take some photographs.
Look at the size of the miilipede.
We met Mr James from Tanjung Malim that came to the mountain to collect plants for research.
I am sure there are more for nature lovers.

Ipoh - A great place for a night stay and choice of good food

This is our 4th annual trip to Sg Petani. The first time we took our break in Penang. The last few trips we chose Ipoh. This trip Rocky is not available.

We arrived on Friday Night. As it was drizzling, we decided not to go for the famous chicken, bean sprouts. Last year we were introduced Restoran Yin Fai Kee, No 2 Jalan Leong Sin Nam(H/P 012-5086639) Speciality, crab with salted egg.. We love the "Claypot Lor See Fan". We enjoyed the food for two hours.

Next morning, breakfast and choice of "Dim Sum" at 30 Jalan Ekram, Ipoh (H/P 012-44677841, 016-5415877). The parking meter around this area is different compare to Kuala Lumpur. Lawrence and Ms Tee is reading the instruction. First, identify the lot number and key in the machine. There is no ticket that will be printed out to display inside the car. Take a look the next time you are in Ipoh.

Why don't the councillor find other revenue. One important criteria for choosing a restaurant is easy parking and better still free parking.

Talk by Adam Khoo - Nov 4, 2006 at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman's Centre for Extension Education

It was an opportunity to listen to Adam Khoo's talk in person. I bought his book I am Gifted, So Are You! I got him to autograph the book for my son Richard.

I am also amazed at the effort by Malaysia Mental Literacy Movement for bringing awareness that learning can be exciting, now that I know I am using only 1% of my brain. Imagine a genius used 3% to 5% of their brains.

EON KLUANG - Participated in one of the activity on the visit by Tengku Mahkota of Johor

Mawi is definitely popular. this boy wanted a photo taken with the life size poster. Some of the musical instruments to perform music. The music was nice and the singer sang very well. How I wish I have recorded a part of the music.

When I was in the primary school, the Sultan of Johor visited Kluang. We would wait with a flag along the road waiting for him to come. The car would passed by, but we could not see him except known that he was inside.

Recently, I have the opportunity to take photographs of the Tengku Mahkota of Johor and his son. They are very warm and friendly. They allowed the residents at this place to set up the stalls where foods are prepared to welcome him. They came, sat and have tea while some perform music and song. Then they visited the stall, sample the foods and drinks. The residents though were tired in the preparation were very happy.

I am very happy too.
